To all the earthlings reading this blog post:

Thousands of people will celebrate Christmas homeless and hungry. We are lucky to have the liberty of checking our cyber walls despite it all. Bear that in mind and be thankful of what you have. Merry Christmas. :)

:>

And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how many people enjoyed good times with those songs. And how much those songs really mean. I think it would be great to have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote one of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote those songs are happy. I hope they feel it’s enough. I really do because they’ve made me happy. And I’m only one person.

Factual and true.

Being a good writer is 3% talent, 97% not being distracted by the internet.

It's for my Communication and Society class but it also serves as a personal blog for me. Enjoy! :)

A Recollection of Thoughts

I browse through our dusty photo album and stumble upon an old photo of me, young and oblivious of the world around me. I stare at the seemingly sepia-themed portrait and wonder if I really am the little girl with the floral outfit and the now outdated blinking pair of rubber shoes. If I were to base on everything that I have experienced through the years, it would be an understatement to say that I have changed. Funny how you just wake up one morning and realize that all of a sudden, things have changed not because you want them to, but because they have to.

I have changed a lot and not just physically, but in every aspect imaginable. I have grown inches taller, have grown my hair a lot longer and have grown my feet bigger, too. I have outgrown the Barbie dolls and Stick-o’s. I have started stripping off my jumpers and caring a bit more about skirts and dresses. I have ditched my daily playing hours and converted them into studying hours. I have started seeing boys in a different light; they are not just playmates, they can be good friends, too. I have improved my relationship with God. I have gained enough confidence to further enhance my skills and harness my abilities. I have started caring for the people around me more than the books I used to carry everywhere. I have become more assertive, expressive and liberal of my views, ideas and thoughts. I have grown beyond my limits.

Looking back now on the 18 years of my existence, I am glad to have changed the way I did. It may not be the way I planned, but it is the way it should be, how the Almighty Father planned it.

Idiosyncrasy

I like eating Tuyo (dried fish) with my Champorado. I find myself smelling anything I come in contact with. I am annoyingly allergic to anything with Sesame – seeds, oil, you name it. I am finding Hello Kitty too girly for my liking. I like substituting condensed milk for peanut butter in my sandwich. I am always wishing on the first star I see every night. Idiosyncratic, yes I am.

I have plenty of weird habits. They are enough proof to arrive at the conclusion that I am indeed unique. But what makes me stand out in a crowd is not my odd behavior, but my rather distinctive personality.

I can make one’s head spin with a single statement I throw at a debate. I involve myself in charity work. I do not frown at the thought of leadership. I embrace every opportunity and the consequences that come with it. I do not scratch my head at the pile of school work waiting for me when I come home; I believe that these tasks are essential training for my future in the industry. I dislike Politics, yet I enjoy indulging myself in discussions about it. I value my education. When I do something, I do it with a heart. I do not judge people on a physical basis; I deem that beauty is directly proportional to wit and benevolence. Admittedly, I make noise in class but the noise I make is definitely educational. I do not believe in love at first sight; a second look always shows a different angle.

Different as I am, I am continued to be loved and cared for by the people around me. Because of this, I am not afraid to show my true colors. I do not blend in the crowd; I stand out.

Why Do People Write?

Language was created long before the people knew how to write. Writing evolved through the years, and now, people write more conveniently through paper and pen. Why do people write? People write to record documents and publicize information.

Why do people write? If people can express themselves through the use of the mouth, why still make use of the paper and pen? Some people find it easier to express themselves through the written word. Not everyone can articulate effectively orally. Writing gives them the power to say anything and everything they want to say.

Why do people write? When kids are asked of what they want to be when they grow up, most would probably answer that they want to be a doctor, a nurse, a lawyer or a teacher. Very few would say that they want to be a writer. But there are people who aspire to be writers for writing to them is not only a hobby; it is a necessity.

Why do people write? History is an important part of any nation’s evolution. To record the events happened, people write. Saving information is one vital use of writing. The recorded information will be passed from generation to generation and it will serve as both a reminder and a lesson for the future members of the society.

Why do people write? People write to communicate with other people. The snail mail and the love letter may be outdated but it will never be replaced by the e-mail. Think of how intimate and personal a handwritten letter is. You cannot send your feelings through the internet.

Whether people are writing for a writing class or for a living, writing is an essential part of one’s life. Words are powerful. So is the paper and pen.

Originality Insufficiency

“It is not cool to copy someone else’s idea. That is plagiarism. It shows that you lack originality.” I once read those words from a classmate’s shirt in my Environmental Science class. The statement was written in a comical manner but it uncovers a perennial issue – plagiarism.

There is a reason why people cannot easily sell the properties of other people in Ebay. Most of them are considered intellectual properties. Stealing other people’s intellectual properties equates to Copyright Infringement. Plagiarism is a less serious form of Copyright Infringement. Wordiq.com defines plagiarism as the use of another's ideas, information, language, or writing, when done without proper acknowledgment of the original source.” It is more commonly known as the copy-paste method. One can plagiarize different forms of intellectual properties – books, publications, music, software, video games, visual art and movies. It is so rampant in the society that it is very difficult to eliminate this problem even though there are punishments for this case. The penalties for this case are five years imprisonment or a fine of P10, 000,000.00.

The most common forms of plagiarism are committed by students; usually a product of laziness and procrastination. Copying from a dictionary, book, article or any reference material without proper citation of the author is considered plagiarism. A student cannot be sentenced to imprisonment but may lead to dismissal from the institution for it is considered cheating.

When you plagiarize, you are not just stealing another author’s property; it is just like you are stealing a part of that author’s brain. Bear in mind that the work you are stealing is done with hard work and patience. The author’s time, money and maybe even feelings are all attached with the intellectual property. It is better to lack creativity than to lack moral ethics.

Enlivened.

Due to another school work, I was forced again to make another blog. Haha. (Not that I do not like blogging. I do.)

This one is for my Expository Writing class. I will post my accomplished and originally-written essays here. You can criticize all you want, I see no harm in doing so. It is a requirement that before you throw all your harsh lines at me, you must be well-equipped with your grammar skills. *LOL* Kidding aside, every literary piece comes from the depth of my heart and emotions. If you take the time to read them, I give you my deepest appreciations. :)

I feel enlivened once again.
